A key component of every ExO, the MTP is an organization’s higher, aspirational purpose. Though critical, an MTP is not a mission statement. An MTP should move a team’s focus from internal affairs to positive external impacts, and should provide a rallying cry that draws people in (while filtering out the uninterested). The ideal MTP should be so sweeping, aspirational, and definitive that competitors are unable to craft an MTP capable of surpassing it. A great example is Google’s MTP of “organizing all of the world’s information.
